Tech Tip #4 - Winterizing and storing your bike
Not sure how or what to do to store the bike for the cold days ahead? Prepping your bike for the cold month is not too hard and should only take a little time to save in the long run. Winter prep is not hard, the big concerns you should have is fuel preservation, tire flats and maintaining the life of the battery. All three are simple to achive and should be done to help when you are getting ready to ride for the first warm day of the next season.

 

Fuel Preservation - Simply fill your tank with fuel and add some fuel stabilizer. This product can be found at any local auto parts store, Walmart, Menards and even our website. Make sure you add the correct amount according to the directions on the bottle. Running the bike around the block will ensure that it has been mixed into the fuel and the carburetors and injectors have been flushed.

Battery Storage - We charge our stored bike batteries periodically on a battery tender. These devices will float when the battery is not in need of charging and charge when the battery runs low. To do this you can either remove the battery or add a charging cable that connects to the battery and stays there on the bike. Hiding the cable to access it when needed is not hard and all you will need is a screw driver!

Tire Flats - Fill the tires to the proper pressure and try to get them off the ground. Storing the bike for a long period of time might put a flat on the bottom of the tire or even give you a flat depending on if the tire looses any pressure. To do this most sport bikes do not have a center stand so you will need a set of stands, one for the rear and one for the front. They are often refereed as "race" stands as a race bike can not have a side stand while on the track.
