Summer Shows

Tech Tip #4 - Winterizing and storing your bike
Not sure how or what to do to store the bike for the cold days ahead? Prepping your bike for the cold month is not too hard and should only take a little time to save in the long run. Winter prep is not hard, the big concerns you should have is fuel preservation, tire flats and maintaining the life of the battery. All three are simple to achive and should be done to help when you are getting ready to ride for the first warm day of the next season.
Fuel Preservation - Simply fill your tank with fuel and add some fuel stabilizer. This product can be found at any local auto parts store, Walmart, Menards and even our website. Make sure you add the correct amount according to the directions on the bottle. Running the bike around the block will ensure that it has been mixed into the fuel and the carburetors and injectors have been flushed.
Battery Storage - We charge our stored bike batteries periodically on a battery tender. These devices will float when the battery is not in need of charging and charge when the battery runs low. To do this you can either remove the battery or add a charging cable that connects to the battery and stays there on the bike. Hiding the cable to access it when needed is not hard and all you will need is a screw driver!
Tire Flats - Fill the tires to the proper pressure and try to get them off the ground. Storing the bike for a long period of time might put a flat on the bottom of the tire or even give you a flat depending on if the tire looses any pressure. To do this most sport bikes do not have a center stand so you will need a set of stands, one for the rear and one for the front. They are often refereed as "race" stands as a race bike can not have a side stand while on the track.

Tech Tip #3 - Build your bike one bolt at a time
Have you ever seen a bike that was just outrageous, you just loved it and asked the questions of what did that cost and how long did that take? When we go to shows those are the first questions show goers ask. The average consumer in the sport bike market simply cannot afford to build that completely outrageous bike in two weeks.
If you read magazines like Super Streetbike and 2Wheel Tuner you will see some incredible builds by some of our colleagues in the industry and you will also come to find that those builds are extremely expensive and backed by either a large company or a celebrity. Now those builds are great and should be used as icons in the market to get ideas and set your goal but it does not have to happen overnight.
As you begin to figure out your plan of attack look for the little items to begin with; chain guards, bar ends, heel guards, and oil filler caps are great items to begin your process. Just remember when you buy your products try to stay with the same manufacturer so the feel of the bike is the same throughout. Keep in mind that sometimes too much, is just too much.
Once you have an idea of what and where you want to go to with your bike start smart! If you plan to paint the bike, get that "Phat" tire or even a custom seat, try to utilize the down time together. Budgeting your money until you could do multiple upgrades will actually save time and money in the long run. What we we are trying to say is if you only need to take something apart one or two times it saves money in labor and reduces the potential of a stripped bolt, scratched new paint job and what ever else you could imagine.
Where ever you begin, however much you can spend plan out the bike one bolt at a time to save in the long run. Good planning
will help produce a complete bike even if it take two years to accomplish you will be happy in the end.

Installing After market product can be very fun and exciting but it should be taken seriously. If you have gotten a part and do not feel 100% confidant that you can install the product properly to keep you and your bike safe you should have a professional mechanic do the work.
If you do install the product remember that vehicles with motors have an extreme amount of vibration during operation. This will lead us to our first tip, Loc-Tite! Loc-Tite is a thread bounder that will help reduce the backing out or loosening of bolts and screws. Along with using proper torque specs the use of a thread bounding agent will keep your bike in one pc.
Ok, now you know to use "Loc-Tite" but what kind should you use? There are many types out there which range from a high strength permanent bind to a frequent repair low bind compound. Low bond is typically a blue, which will more then adequate for most after market products. Just remember that a little will go a long way! Depending on the product using one drop should be good, but this is a judgment call on the installer.
Either way you look at it is fun and exciting getting new product but just remember to be safe so you can enjoy the product!
